Troy Ave to Drop "Free Troy Ave" Mixtape

Beleaguered rapper Troy Ave is set to release the most anticipated mixtape of his career on Monday [June 6], and in a move supporters will find befitting the times, he's titled the project "Free Troy Ave". The Major Without a Deal artist has dropped mixes every year since 2009, and in spite of what legal battle awaits him in the aftermath of the Irving Plaza shooting in May, It appears he has no intention of detracting from his career trajectory. Just this past Saturday the Brooklyn rapper sparked up some momentum, releasing the single "Chuck Norris (Hoes N Gangstas)" in lead up to the big drop.
Inspiration for the work's title may very well have come from Meek Mill, who announced his solidarity with Troy Ave last week. The album was initially going to be called "Real Vs Fake", but much that had been established before the fateful night that changed Troy's life last month, has been put into question, as the rapper faces some serious time after a damning surveillance video of him firing shots at the NYC concert resulted in him being booked on an attempted murder charge. In a gesture of support extended via Instagram, Meek challenged whether the justice system serves to protect people like he and Troy, and made a plea for fans to hold fast from allowing the media to sway them against their own.
Meek's post has since fired up a bevy of "Free Troy Ave" hashtags, reminiscent of the movement that began when recently released Atlanta Trap God Gucci Mane was locked up in 2013. Since his arrest was made, while he lay hospitalized from a bullet wound to the leg, the case has taken a turn that his lawyers hope to be favorable, as the NYPD announced they are now investigating the possibility of the involvement of another shooter.
